Geneva LDTR vote: law 13025 rejected
Geneva has voted on 27 September 2026 on law 13025, a proposed amendment to the LDTR to make it easier, under certain conditions, for a landlord to sell a flat to its sitting tenant. The No side won.
Cantonal result
According to the figures published by the Canton of Geneva, the proposal received 36.5% Yes (43,342 votes) and 63.5% No (75,481 votes), excluding blank ballots. The No side holds the majority.
What does this mean for property owners?
The existing Article 39 LDTR framework remains in place. Selling a rented flat to its occupant still requires, among other things, written consent from at least 60% of the other tenants in the building and cantonal authorisation. Rejection does not ban all sales to tenants; it simply means the additional route proposed under law 13025 was not adopted.
